Decoding Deception
It is a quality of human nature that we are all convinced that what we believe is the truth. Why would we knowingly believe something that was a lie? We wouldn’t. None of us wants to be wrong, and we especially don’t want to be deceived into thinking something is true when it isn’t. Yet…there are hundreds of Christian denominations with differing beliefs, as well as untold numbers of cults and false religions. How can we possibly be sure we are right and everyone else is wrong? And if we have some points of theology where we disagree, what does that mean? How should we respond to those who are wrong? And how do we even know which of us is wrong? How can we know the truth?
When Pilate was examining Jesus, he asked Him “What is truth?” But Jesus had already declared the answer: “I am the truth!” Truth is not a “what” – just a detached, impersonal fact or figure. Truth is a “Who.” Truth is the ongoing revelation we receive as we listen to the Holy Spirit. As A.W. Tozer stated: “Truth is creative, saving, transforming and it always changes the one who receives it into a humbler and holier man.”
In this series, we will explore two major errors which may entice believers, comparing them to true Christianity. But perhaps more importantly, we will discover how to receive revelation truth through the logos and rhema of God; through biblical meditation and the direct communication of the Spirit to your heart.
